Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been in boxing a very short time and has already caused a stir, with the initial joint venture with his now former best friend Floyd Mayweather in starting TMT Promotions, before the two decided to go their separate ways, and become involved in a very public row. Regardless whose side you take on this matter there are very few in the world that know the facts, but you cannot help but admire what both men have done in their respective industries.
According to Richard Schaefer Floyd Mayweather could be in line for bout with Robert Guerrero for his first fight since his incarceration “I have started conversations with Team Mayweather for a potential fight between Robert and Floyd,” Schaefer said at a recent press event. “I think if a fight with Mayweather can happen, it would be a fascinating match-up. Because with Floyd, you have unquestionably the best pound-for-pound fighter, the most talented and gifted athlete [in boxing]. Whoever Floyd fights, he makes it look easy… I would be interested to see, ‘Can he win, let alone make it look easy, against Robert Guerrero?’ I have my doubts because Robert really showed us what he’s all about. It would be a great match-up.”
Whilst Mayweather has been inactive in the boxing world since his release from prison, the war of words and “beef with long time best friend 50 Cent has hit the headlines on a weekly basis. Mayweather himself has remained tight lipped on the situation to the world’s media since the twitter war between the two. If you recall, FightHype.com’s Ben Thompson wrote an article with the letter Floyd Mayweather received from Tommy Summers, an associate who is reportedly working with 50 Cent to sign fighters. The letter was a message from Summers expressing his opinion on the financial situation Floyd finds himself in with Golden Boy promotions and Al Haymon and what seems to be an attempt to split Mayweather’s and Haymon’s working relationship up. Both Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe have come out publicly and addressed the issue, insisting that Floyd Mayweather is loyal and grateful to the team he has around him, who have done a wonderful job in making Mayweather the highest paid athlete in the sporting world after breaking multiple PPV records.
50 Cent despite going separate ways from Floyd Mayweather has gone ahead and set up his own promotional company titled “SMS Promotions” acquiring fighters such as IBF Featherweight champion Billy Dib and highly rated Yuriorkis Gamboa who is scheduled to take on Michael Farenas on December 8 on the under card for Top Rank Promotions’ Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez 4.
In This interview 50 Cent gives his verdict of events, insinuating that it was not Floyd Mayweather tweeting on his account during the twitter war and quite possibly had advice from associates regarding the context of the tweets. 50 Cent also goes on to reveal the details of what started the friction between the two after Mayweather’s release from jail, very interesting to hear 50 Cent share his side of the story.
