BEYOND THE ROPES EPISODE 1 – HAYE: “I TOOK HIM OUT IN ABOUT 5 SECONDS IN THE STREET”

This past Wednesday evening, in preparation for the David Haye vs Dereck Chisora Heavyweight clash on July 14, BoxNation aired the premiere of the 4 part series titled “Beyond The Ropes”  The series is very intriguing as it allows fans to see how both men are preparing for their fight, hear opinions from all involved in the bout, including the fighters themselves, trainers, sparring partners and the managers of both men.  This series is a fantastic way to promote the fight and to keep fans up to date with the inside news from both camps in the build-up to this fight, and this writer predicts you will not be disappointed with what you see and hear in these four episodes.

DAVID HAYE

“Myself and Klitschko had been in negotiations leading up to that fight, but I kept it quiet, I wanted to wait until the press conference.”

“I hit him with two elbows and just felt his body sank to the floor, he was on the floor unconscious for about 3 or 4 seconds.”

“I’m a better boxer than a street fighter and I took him out in about 5 seconds in the street, so what is going to happen in the fight?”

(Upon arriving a little bit of confusion occurred as the Haye camp were informed that it was arranged for Haye to appear at a short press conference, which took them by surprise. Haye kindly agreed after discussions between Haye’s representatives and the Luxemburg’s representatives. and signed gloves and had photos with people in attendance at the conference.)

“Very thorough medical making sure I am in tip top condition, checking my heart my ***** that kind of stuff to make sure everything is nice and healthy, so I can go out there and not drop dead on the first bell.”

“I’m now off to the hotel where i’m going to get some food, and there is a small press conference, that they have asked me nicely to do, all the official stuff is done now, and have an hour before I have to be back at the airport, so will just say some kind words to the camera.”

“When I’m in fight mode, this is a real treat for me (the pasta) pasta, regular pasta, wheat pasta, I wouldn’t eat wheat, would probably have brown rice pasta something like that, but i’m away and it’s light.”

(About doing a press conference) “Frank Warren asked nicely if I would do it, so here we are, I don’t mind doing it, it is not interfering with my training as you saw I had a little session earlier and am not training till later tonight, so got some spare time so why not have another little presser and get the hype build going. The amount of press we have had for this fight is pretty much unprecedented. We have had more column inches for this fight than I did for Vladimir Klitschko and than I did for Nikolay Valuev and it is a non title, not for a world title, it is just me beating up Dereck Chisora, it is amazing how much hype this fight has generated.”

“I have known Dereck for years, he has always been a bit off the wall, a bit wacky, and I think the penny dropped with him, ‘Okay, I just got to be a lunatic, and sooner or the later the penny will drop and realise I’m mad and want to see me.’ You know, he wants to be that kind of Mike Tyson character.”

“He says such stupid things, he is not a hard person to tie in knots. I will probably say stuff that bothers him, but that’s what I do anyway. I’m a bit of a wind up merchant, so I will probably say something to wind him up.”

Dereck and I don’t have a problem, just like me and Don Charles,we’re cool with each other. Dereck said “how’s training going” and I said “better than you want it to” and he laughed and joked”
