It has emerged that prior to yesterday’s press conference at the Radisson hotel announcing his comeback to boxing, that former world champion Ricky Hatton had a major bust up with his father Ray in a gym car park the night before the conference.
A witness said “Ricky and his dad haven’t really talked for two years. Ray isn’t happy about Rickys lifestyle. Ray had gone to confront his son. There was a dispute in the car park seen by quite a few people. Ray took a swipe at him.”
A Spokesperson for Greater Manchester police stated “Shortly before 11.45am on Thursday, police received reports that there had been a fight involving two men outside a health and fitness club on Market Street, Hyde.
”A 33-year-old man was assaulted by a 61-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of common assault and subsequently given a police caution.”
“The 33-year-old man was not injured in the incident.”
Following this the police were called and Ray received a caution after being taken to the police station, it is rumoured that Hatton will be pressing charges.
At the press conference Hatton looked focused and determined to redeem himself in his comeback, whether this conflict with his father will affect him in the run up to his November 24th return is yet to be seen. Yesterday Hatton looked in shape and eager to make a big impression on his comeback fight. We are likely to find out Hatton’s November opponent within the next fortnight, with Hatton looking to work towards a world title and fight a ranked opponent in his upcoming bout.
