Murray, who fought to a draw in Germany with Felix Sturm in his first attempt at capturing a world title, must first come through his fight this weekend against unbeaten Venezuelan Jorge Navarro. Murray-Navarro, featuring on the undercard of Ricky Hatton’s return to the ring against Vyacheslav Senchenko, is for the vacant WBA interim crown.
While Murray does admit to relishing the opportunity to share the ring with Martinez, he is all too aware that should he fail to beat Navarro then his dreams of becoming a world champion will be in tatters. “Martinez is the type of fighter I want to face but I must beat Navarro first. My team have spoken to Martinez’s camp but everything was kept away from me because of Saturday’s fight,” Murray said.
Sergio Martinez recently undergone successful knee surgery, so providing there are no complications in his recovery then it will be all systems go for Murray vs. Martinez on April 27, 2013.
