Sergio Martinez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr are set to do battle on September 15 and it promises to be a block buster event in a middleweight clash that has been hotly talked about for a number of years now.

Martinez has often called Chavez Jr out in the press, and has finally got the opportunity to step in the ring and prove a point against a controversial Chavez Jr who is improving fight by fight.

There is no question Freddie Roach has done a great job with Chavez Jr who was described by many as a paper champion earlier on in his career, but most recently against Andy Lee proven to be up there with the very best.  Chavez Jr has often found himself at the centre of controversy with reports that he ducked a drugs test following the Rubio fight then further reports that he refused to have his gloves weighed and given a sample for drugs test before the fight, in apposed to the post fight drug test.  Whilst it is not my place to judge, it did not go down well with Lee’s trainer Emmanuel Steward who wanted answers.

Regardless of the past, it is important to look to the future in a bout that was tipped to go head to head against Golden Boy Promotions in their Canelo vs Ortiz battle, but with the injury and defeat suffered by Ortiz, the PPV option is no longer there and the Canelo vs Lopez bout does not seem to attract the interest as the middleweight showdown.
