Televised boxing returns to the western hemisphere on Friday. ESPN’s ‘Friday Night Fights’ is headlined by super featherweights Rances Barthelemy vs. Arash Usmanee. Light middleweights, Jonathan Gonzalez and Derek Ennis are the second feature on the bill.
Another bout on the bill probably won’t get any airtime, but in case it does that’ll be light welterweights Yuri Ramanau vs. Jeremy Bryan.
FRIDAY 4TH JANUARY/ SATURDAY 5TH JANUARY:
ESPN2 / ESPN America ‘Friday Night Fights’ – 10:00 pm ET / 03:00 GMT
Rances ‘Kid Blast’ Barthelemy (17-0-0) vs. Arash Usmanee (20-0-0). Super featherweights, 12 rounds.
-Rances Barthelemy impressed in his last bout. Not perfect, but very, very promising. Arash Usmanee is also undefeated, but he’s going to have to show a lot of quality if he wants to beat Barthelemy.
Jonathan ‘Mantequila’ Gonzalez (15-0-1) vs. Derek ‘Pooh’ Ennis (23-3-1). Light middleweights, 10 rounds.
-Jonathan Gonzalez drew in his last bout, but the blemish was that he came in well over the weight limit. Nonetheless he showed boxing ability and has a good chance of passing the veteran test that will be presented by Derek Ennis. It might matter that Ennis was stopped 2 fights ago.
